State Representative George Cushingberry Jr. represents
the 8th House District. Since in office, the full House
has passed one of his bills that will use a portion of
Detroit's utility taxes to fund the
Detroit Police Department above the current $45
million cap preventing additional cuts to the
department. Cushingberry also supported Gov. Jennifer M.
Granholm's $2 billion jobs package. In addition to
serving in the House from 1974 to 1982, Cushingberry
also served on the Wayne County Board of Commissioners
for 16 years, practices law, and serves as assistant
pastor of
New Starlight Baptist Church.
